Community comes together to welcome 6A State Champion Pantherettes home
The Pantherettes came home to a grand celebration after winning the 2016 6A State Title in San Antonio. The home side of Sandra Meadows Arena packed in with parents, fans and teachers who came out to cheer on their Pantherettes as they had a grand introduction entering through the locker room tunnel. The Pantherettes capped their season at a perfect 39-0 and the celebration was no different.
“We are so proud of our Pantherettes” superintendent Dr.Deborah Cron said. “Their motto this year was use it and use it is what they did.”
Head Coach Cathy Self-Morgan has been apart of several championship teams and has now coached the fourth state championship team for the Pantherettes. Self-Morgan now joins the legendary Sandra Meadows who also had four state titles with the Pantherettes.
“We appreciate all of you guys,” Self-Morgan said as she looked up in the stands. “To the fans, the parents, the community for all the support to me and these group of young ladies we are extremely grateful.”
Senior captains Ciera Johnson (Louisville) and Madison Townley (North Texas) and senior guard Chrinesisha and Rosie Davis (Xavier) will be the only starters who will be missing next year and they all admit they will cherish this year’s finish.
“This is one of the funnest years I’ve had at Duncanville” Johnson said. “I appreciate everything everyone has done for me and thanks to all of you for the support. We couldn’t have done it without our fans.”
