In what was a rocky first quarter and a slow start for our Panther football team, their offense came alive again in a 24 point second quarter, as they went on to win 38-23 win against Arlington Sam Houston.

Senior Quarterback Jaylin Nelson had another huge game as he lead the Panther offense to the win. Nelson passed for 270 yards and one touchdown, while he rushed for 110 yards with 2 rushing touchdowns. It was a very impressive performance for the senior as he filled up the stat sheet.

They started the game off slow as the Panthers were down 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, but their offense exploded in the second quarter as they put 24 point up going into half time.

Coming out of the half they looked a little sloppy, giving up a touchdown, and coughing up the football once, which lead to another Sam Houston drive and score which looked to have tied the game, but a missed extra point kept the Panthers in the lead 24-23.

The Panther’s offense responded huge though scoring a quick touchdown stopping the Sam Houston momentum, as the defense didn’t allow another score for the rest of the game. The Panther offense scored another touchdown late, which sealed the deal with the final score of 38-23.

Though our Panthers got the win, Head Coach Reginald Samples, wasn’t very pleased with their performance.

“We didn’t play very good at all this game,”  Samples said. “I expect more out of this football team, and we will be better.”

Coach Samples has high expectations for his football team, and won’t settle for anything less than those expectations moving forward this season.

Up next for Samples’s football team, is a team he is very familiar with, in the Skyline Raiders. He coached there for  nine years, leading them to the state playoffs each year. Friday night he will head out to the field looking to upset the team he once led in the playoffs.
